UK Year of Service

Providing expert career coaching and placements for young adults

Overview

The UK Year of Service Career Coaching programme facilitates the provision of high quality career coaching to young adults (also known as members). These members are currently registered with the National Citizen Service Trust (NCST).

Career Coaching provided by Education Development Trust takes place within the final 3 months of the NCST support. Delivery methods for the interventions and interactions between EDT career coaches and members will mainly take place virtually to members in the North East, North West and Yorkshire and Humber.

The delivery period runs between 1st October 2024 until 31st March 2025.

Employment Coaching

Towards the end of their placement, start of the 7th month of their work placement members will have access to an employment coaching service which will aim to provide an opportunity for members to receive tailored support as they begin to think about their exit route from the programme.

Our approach

An external partner which is EDT is to address member feedback from previous cohorts and deliver an expert, quality Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance provision to support members' education, employment and training (EET) outcomes.

Key to our approach, is an acknowledgement of differing needs between members. The coaching offer is a short-term intervention, bespoke to the individual. It’s an opportunity to leverage their development so far on placement and translate into a clear exit route intention.

By engaging with the employment coaching provision, UK Year of Service members should achieve one or more of the following outcomes:

  • Increase their clarity on post-placement goals and programme exit route.
  • Increase their knowledge and ability to research and identify opportunities.
  • Increase their competence and capability to apply to and secure their next opportunity in employment, education or training following their placement.
  • Increased connections to specific post placement opportunities.
  • Increase practical employability skills (e.g CV writing, Interview techniques, etc.).
